Handmade badges, rings, pendants, cast in pewter. Embracing roughness and imperfection. Inspired by pilgrim tokens, medieval imagery and ancient artefacts.
Method:
I use mostly cuttlebone-casting, which involves carving the design in negative before pouring the molten pewter into the mould, then finishing by filing and sanding. Because cuttlebone is very brittle, it is rare that any mould survives a single casting. As such, most of these pieces are unique one-offs which will not be made again. I am working on methods to produce pieces that can be replicated, and I hope to make these available in the future.
Note on pricing:
As of November 2024, my prices are increasing. This is reflective of the time and effort it takes to design, carve, cast and finish each piece, particularly as I am currently using casting methods that often mean the pieces cannot be reproduced. Like a lot of independent makers/artists, I often undervalue the work I make – the increase in pricing is to ensure that I am paying myself a living wage. Thank you for the support! ❦
